Major Companies

As you already know, Diamondville was founded due to coal mining. Coal reserves in this area are estimated to be 28 billion tons, mostly bituminous. One of the areas largest employers is Pittsburg & Midway Coal Company, a subsidiary of Chevron-Texaco. Their mine is located just slightly southwest of Diamondville, and is the largest open pit coal mine in the country. Most of the coal produced is delivered directly by a long conveyer belt to the Naughton Power Plant, owned by Pacific Power and Light, a subsidiary of Scottish Power. The Naughton Power Plant is also a major company and employer for our area and produces electricity that is sent all over the West. It is located just east of the coal mine.

Wyoming is ranked as one of the top areas for oil and gas production. The Williams Field Services Plant, in addition to the Kern River Pipeline just east of Diamondville, is the largest producer in the nation. Also in this area is the Exxon/Mobile Shute Creek Plant, which is also a major producer and supplier of natural gas. Additions to both plants this past year as well as additional pipe lines have made this a major hub of energy development.
A vast majority of public land (BLM) surrounding Diamondville is now home to numerous wells and pump stations.
