may be a small community but has a really big heart.
As you have probably noted from the beginning of the site, Diamondville
is greatly influenced by coal, not only in our name, but also
in other ways. We have two parks that are dedicated to the coal
mines. Our only memorial is dedicated to coal miners. And last,
but certainly not least, all but five of our streets are named
after local coal mines. For example, we have Sublet, Blazon, Glenco,
No.7, Darby, and many more.
We have two of our streets that aren’t named for mines,
Chicago Street, and Paper Collar Row. Chicago Street is named
that because at one time Diamondville was called Little Chicago
for its famous or infamous bootlegging during the Prohibition
years. Paper Collar Row is named that because all of the local
coal company bosses used to live there and used to wear shirts
to work that had stiff paper collars on them.
